CDC launches new framework to understand the impact of private healthcare providers

The global movement towards universal health coverage (UHC) means that there is a greater need for more healthcare providers to achieve full population coverage. CDC asked the respected Centre for Health Policy at the Institute of Global Health Innovation, Imperial College, to develop and test a new framework for understanding the impact private healthcare providers can have on the patients they treat and the health ecosystems to which they belong. The report was launched on 28 June 2017.

Capital Dynamics survey shows growing integration of ESG and value-creation strategies

Capital Dynamics, a global asset manager, published a report on the relationship between the active management of environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues and value creation in April 2017. The research is informed by a survey which targeted 175 general partners (GPs) and had 109 respondents, primarily from Europe and North America (82%).

McKinsey & Company, the management consulting firm, published an article in March 2017 which discusses the impact of environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues on valuations.

ERM survey highlights use of ESG to create value

Environmental Resources Management (ERM), a leading environmental and social consultancy, published the results from a survey of 60 general partners (GPs) and limited partners (LPs) in February 2017. Over 95% of the respondents – representing US$1.3 trillion in assets under management – believed that there was significant untapped value from ESG within their portfolio companies.

RRI suggests land conflicts in India put US$179bn at risk

The Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI) and the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) published a study in November 2016 which analyses 289 ongoing land-related conflicts in India. These conflicts affect an estimated 3.2m people and put US$179bn of investment at risk.

UNGC and EY release a report on building sustainable supply chains

The United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and EY released the study in August 2016 with the aim of promoting responsibility and resilience in complex global supply chains. The report argues that ESG improvements in supply chains offer diverse commercial benefits, including reduced costs and market differentiation.

Aviva Investors, SFP and PRI launch a report on sustainable seafood and responsible investment

The report was published on World Oceans Day (8 June 2016) and highlights the challenges facing many fishery sectors globally, particularly in developing countries. Partly due to weak regulation, many fishing grounds are only producing a fraction of historical catches.

CDC and DEG have collaborated on a new report which provides guidance to investors on managing legacy land issues in the agribusiness sector. Legacy land issues are a particular challenge in emerging markets, especially where details about historical acquisition / lease arrangements may be uncertain and baseline studies are weak or absent.
